Project: Ammonia Plant

Industry: Gas and Chemical Processing

Situation:

The first new ammonia manufacturing plant in Louisiana in more than 25 years is under construction in the town of Waggaman, along the west bank of the Mississippi River. Set to begin production in 2016, the $850 million plant will have the capacity to produce 800,000 metric tons of ammonia each year. Nearly 1,300 indirect jobs and construction jobs will be created as a result over the next two years.

Solution:

The project’s engineering company came to Tioga for a bid on six items, including chrome moly grade P22, chrome moly grade P11 and large outer diameter pipe. With an original quote of $1 million and a reputation for maintaining the closest mill relationships in the industry, Tioga won the job.

Result:

Tioga worked hand in hand with the mills to reduce pricing, prompting the engineering company to continue to request more pipe. Because of these outstanding relationships, Tioga was able to deliver more than double the original ask.
